Pragya Mishra: Weaving Worlds for Young Minds
Pragya Mishra is a bilingual author crafting imaginative, insightful, and spiritually uplifting stories for children in both Hindi and English. Deeply committed to creating literature that resonates with multilingual and multicultural audiences, her writing celebrates diversity while bridging cultures—anchoring children to their roots and igniting their limitless imaginations.
Her journey as an author began not with ambition, but with quiet discovery. Writing wasn’t her initial calling—but over time, it took root, eventually blossoming into her first published book, Fuhar (2018), a collection of ten spiritually enriching stories for young adults, published by the esteemed Rajkamal Prakashan House.
The turning point came when Pragya embraced Sahaja Yoga, a meditation practice founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. Through this path, she found deeper meaning and met fellow seekers—some already on the journey, others still discovering it. Her experiences during the Inner Peace Awakening program in Russia (2014), and later at the Culture of Spirit Festival in Cabella Ligure, Italy, expanded her creative horizons.
In 2015, during an Inner Peace Programme in China, Pragya translated Kabir’s couplets—an experience that sparked her literary fire. Her dedication to promoting inner peace and human connection caught the attention of the BRICS International Forum, leading to a collaboration for a major cultural and literary festival in Moscow (2016). Opportunities followed in Dubai, Singapore, and the United States, widening her global footprint.
A defining moment came in 2018, when she met her mentor, Mr. Yogi Mahajan, a celebrated spiritual author. His bestseller The Age of Ascent (Rupa Publications) deeply inspired her. Under his guidance, Pragya’s storytelling evolved—rooted in moral values, spiritual themes, and the vision of enriching young minds.
In 2024, this creative evolution culminated in the launch of Bolte Bulbule, a five-part children’s book series published by Unbound Script. Each book features five intricately woven tales, with the inaugural title Teddy launched at Oxford Bookstore, New Delhi. The series made its public debut at the World Book Fair, marking a significant milestone in her writing journey.
Alongside storytelling, Pragya is a dedicated researcher of Hindi children’s literature, having presented her academic work at national and international forums. In 2024, she was invited twice by Banaras Hindu University to speak at prestigious conferences. In 2025, she presented her work at Abu Dhabi University in Dubai and participated in a thought-provoking panel at the Banaras Lit Fest.
A landmark achievement followed with the release of her first Hindi science fiction novel for children, Gigi Zara—a genre-defying blend of fairy tale charm and futuristic wonder. The book’s cover was unveiled at the Prayagraj Book Fair, followed by its grand launch at the World Book Fair in New Delhi.
One of the proudest moments of her career came when all seven of her books were presented to her childhood idol, Mr. Ruskin Bond, by Mr. Sunil Arora of Cambridge Book Store, Mussoorie. Mr. Bond not only posed graciously with her books but expressed genuine interest in reading them—and even suggested they be placed alongside his own works on the store’s shelves.
Beyond writing and research, Pragya actively connects with children through storytelling sessions, literary workshops, and educational programs. Memorable sessions include those at Army School, Jabalpur, and International Sahaja Public School, Dharamshala. In March 2025, she was warmly invited by Oxford Bookstore to host a storytelling session for the children of the Salaam Baalak Trust—a deeply fulfilling experience.
She was also invited to be a part of a special panel at the Hindi Sahitya Utsav, hosted by Oxford Bookstore, New Delhi, on the theme “Bachchon aur Kishoron ke Lekhan ki Nayi Zameen.” Sharing the stage with fellow storytellers shaping the future of children’s literature—and joining the Bharat Storytellers community—was both inspiring and humbling.
Soon after, she was invited for a podcast by renowned blogger Siddhi Palade, where they explored the magic of storytelling and the nuances of writing for young readers.
